Tournus is a city located in Burgundy along the Saône river.

The city of Tournus is a charming small town located on the banks of the Saône, the city is especially known for its Saint-Philibert abbey, masterpiece of the Romanesque art. Now there are no more monks in the abbey but all the buildings related to the monastic life are still present and can be visited. The visit can continue along the quays of the Saône, to the Hôtel-Dieu Museum - Musée-Greuze. It should be noted that there are two starred restaurants in the small town of Tournus, one of which is located right next to the abbey (the restaurant Greuze). If you are in the area, don't hesitate to make a small detour to visit the town of Tournus.

The Greuze Museum

Greuze (1725 - 1805) is a painter born in Tournus. The museum is not very big, the price is affordable but it is closed during the winter months. Unfortunately the most beautiful works of the painter are not in Tournus but in the Louvre and in Saint-Petersburg.

The entrance to the Greuze museum also gives access to the Hôtel-Dieu, which was the former hospital of the city. Its construction began in 1661. You can visit the chapel and the three large rooms that were used to treat the sick (the men's, women's and soldiers' rooms).
