The Settons lake is an artificial lake located in the heart of the regional natural park of Morvan in Nievre. It is located south of the town of Montsauche-les-Settons 2 h 30 from Paris or Lyon. Its area is 367 ha to a maximum depth of 18 metres near the dam. It was built from 1854 to 1861. Its primary function was to facilitate the transport of firewood in the forests of the Morvan up to Paris. People used to cause artificial flooding of the Cure (river feeding the Lake) in order to facilitate the rafting of timber. This activity ended in the 1920s. The Lake was then converted into tourist lake. It is one of the few lakes in the region, all water activities are allowed: pedalo, canoe, sail to the jet ski and water skiing. Swimming is permitted. You can also hike or rent a mountain bike.
