The MAM in Paris

The MAM for Museum of Modern Art!

New York has its MOMA (Museum of Modern Art). Paris has its MAM, which is located not far from the Eiffel Tower. If you visit the Eiffel Tower and you are not too tired you can go to the Museum of Modern Art (15 minutes walk from the Trocadero). There are so many museums in Paris that it is hard to choose for the tourist or even the Parisian. This museum exhibits contemporary works. If you look at the history of art, the works are located after the Musée d'Orsay and before the Centre national d'art et de culture Georges-Pompidou. Is it worth the trip if you only have a few days to visit Paris? The answer is simple: no. The works presented are not of the same caliber as those in other prestigious Parisian museums. The only advantage of the MAM: The entrance is free for the permanent collection, that is to say almost the whole museum.

Practical information

The entrance to the Museum of Modern Art

The architecture of the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris is both imposing and elegant, reflecting the architectural style characteristic of the 1930s. Designed by the architects Dufau, Aubert and Dastugue, the building is distinguished by its clean lines and large windows that let in natural light.

La terrasse

Very nice terrace in summer to have a drink with a view on the Seine and the Eiffel Tower.

The Palais de Tokyo

The Musée d'Art Moderne is actually located in the Palais de Tokyo, but only occupies one wing. In the other wing is the Palais de Tokyo, another museum to which admission is charged. The two museums, which are side by side, have the same theme: contemporary art. The Palais de Tokyo is even more elitist than the Museum of Modern Art. Ridiculous situation!

A room in the Museum of Modern Art

The museum has just been redone. The paintings are classically displayed next to each other in white rooms.

Museum Hall

The rooms have themes but they all look the same. The common theme of all the rooms should be the ugliness of the paintings on display. In the middle of the room is a car compression by Caesar.

The museum

The Musée d'Art Moderne is a veritable showcase for the artistic creativity of the 20th century. It houses a vast collection of modern and contemporary art, covering a wide range of artistic movements, styles and techniques. The Musée d'Art Moderne is less well-known than other Parisian museums, and is much less crowded.

Nude with red vest by Francis Gruber (1912)

It has some interesting works but there are few paintings that will really mark you. We don't stop.
7

The Electricity Fairy by Raoul Dufy

The wooden panels that make up the painting occupy a huge room.
3

Christ and fishermen by Georges Rouault (1937)

This work is quite representative of all those in the museum.
2

The flame of freedom

If you leave the museum and walk for 5 minutes you can admire another more popular art form. The replica of the flame of the Statue of Liberty has become a monument to Princess Diana at the entrance to the tunnel where she died. Padlocks are back!
