From the Grand Palais to the Musée d'Orsay

A magnificent walk along the Seine to discover the most beautiful monuments of Paris

The walk starts from the Grand Palais at the bottom of the Champs-Elysées (Metro Champs-Elysées Clémenceau) and goes to the Musée D'Orsay passing by the banks of the Seine. On the way you can visit the Petit Palais with its splendid museum and discover the most beautiful bridge in Paris: the Alexandre III bridge. If you have some energy left you can even visit the Orsay museum. The majority of the walk takes place along the quays of the Seine where cars are not allowed.

Practical information

The Grand Palais

The walk starts from the Grand Palais, a magnificent building built for the 1897 Universal Exhibition and which has the largest glass roof in Europe. Today it is used for many events during the year (sports, exhibitions, concerts...). To visit the interior you have to buy tickets for these events. The entrance tickets are often very expensive.

Le Petit Palais

In front of the Grand Palais is the Petit Palais. It is just as beautiful as the Grand Palais and access is completely free. You can even have access to all the permanent collections of the museum for free. Not to be missed!

Beautiful entrance hall. It is much less crowded than other more famous museums.

The Petit Palais houses the Musée des Beaux-Arts de la ville de Paris. The collections go from Antiquity to more recent periods. You can admire paintings by Ingres, Géricault, Delacroix...

The Alexander III bridge

When you leave the Petit Palais you have to go to the Alexander III bridge. The bridge was built in 1900 to commemorate the French-Russian friendship. It is certainly the most beautiful bridge of Paris, you will cross newlyweds of the whole world who come to be photographed on this bridge.

After crossing the bridge, just walk along the Seine.

On the banks of the Seine

The walk continues along the Seine. You will find something to eat on the barges moored along the Seine.

The pedestrian path

All along the route you will have a magnificent view of the Tuileries Garden and the Louvre located on the other side of the Seine.

The Orsay Museum

After a few minutes you arrive at the Musée d'Orsay where you can take public transport (RER C). By continuing along the Seine you can also reach the Latin Quarter (Saint Michel).
