The park of the Château du Versailles

A very nice free walk in the park of the most beautiful castle in the world

The entrance to the park is free, on Sundays you can meet many joggers doing their morning run. The park is huge and has several entrances. The best is not to go through the main entrance just in front of the castle but to take an entrance a little further (route de Saint-Cyr) where you will not have to pay to park your car.

Nice perspective

You'll have to walk a bit before you reach the Grand Canal at the bottom of the driveway.

At the end of the park

This vast, straight stretch of water is one of the most emblematic features of the Parc de Versailles. It was created to offer an impressive perspective from the château, highlighting the grandeur of the palace and its surroundings. The park is so large that you can hardly see the Château at all.

Le Grand Canal

You can walk around the Grand Canal but there is not much to see. You can also visit the fountains for free except during the days dedicated to the "Grandes Eaux" when the access to the fountains is paying.

The view over the Grand Canal and the grounds of the Château de Versailles is magnificent. The Grand Canal was not just a decorative feature, but also a place of entertainment and leisure for the royal court.
