The park of Versailles, the Orangery, the Bassin de Neptune

A little walk in the park of the chateau of Versailles among the fountains and the groves.

This walk is located inside the park of the Château de Versailles, the access to the park is free for pedestrians but paying for vehicles. For this walk you can park your car outside the park (difficult to find a free place) and you enter the park on foot through the Queen's gate which is very close to the gardens. There is no particular difficulty on the route except perhaps the lack of shade as in all the French gardens. It can be very hot in summer. The fountains work on the days of the Grandes Eaux (mainly Saturdays and Sundays in summer). Beware during the Great Waters, the access to most of the park is not free, only the part located towards the Grand Canal is free. On the other days of the week, access to the park for pedestrians is free but the fountains do not work.

Practical information

Departure

If there is room to park in the street, you can access the park in a few minutes through the Queen's gate. Parking is charged as everywhere in Versailles.

Le Trianon Palace

The Trianon Palace is just at the edge of the park. Gordon Ramsay, made famous by his TV shows, officiates in the kitchen. The prices are as good as his reputation.

The formal gardens are constantly maintained by a multitude of gardeners.

The little train

If you want to go to Marie-Antoinette's estate, it is better to take the little train that runs through the park at regular intervals. You also have the option of a more elegant but more expensive golf cart.

L'Orangerie

Beautiful little garden with a multitude of trees (palm trees, lemon trees...). It is necessary to take advantage of it during the summer because from October 15 all is put back in the immense orangery just beside.

Stairs

Two monumental staircases on each side of the Orangery allow you to descend into this part of the park.

Colonnade Grove

A sublime marble summer garden with fountains all around.

Apollo's Basin

In the foreground you can see the Apollo basin representing Apollo on a horse-drawn chariot. In the second plan you can see the Grand Canal where boating is allowed. The distances are important, it is better to make two visits to see everything.

Perspective of the Neptune basin

The fountains only work during the Great Waters, mainly on Saturdays and Sundays at certain times. Beware, access to certain parts of the park becomes chargeable during the watering.

View of the Palace of Versailles

The crowds are mostly present along this alley. The park is so large that the various groves on the sides are less crowded.
