The Pointe du Raz

A very nice hike from the Pointe du Raz to the Baie des Trépassés.

The visit of the Pointe de la Raz is rather disappointing. A few years ago, developments were made to channel the flow of tourists who were damaging the vegetation of the Pointe du Raz and we can not say that it is a success. The site has lost much of its magic. It is better to take the coastal path which remains closer to the cliffs rather than the direct path to the Pointe, which is less interesting. One can then continue on the coastal path and go towards the Baie des Trépassés. The landscapes are then much more beautiful and grandiose. You have to be careful with the weather conditions and the winds which can be violent in the region.

Practical information

Le parking

The parking is large and it is paying (8 euros for a car) during the good season. You have to walk for about 15 minutes to get to the Pointe du Raz.
4

The shops

To go to the Pointe du Raz, you have to go past the shops. There are not really tables to picnic in the nice season.

House of Pointe du Raz

The Pointe du Raz has the label "Grand Site de France". When we see the decoration of the small museum present on the site, we feel a little ashamed. It reminds us of the museums of the 70s.
1

The path to the Point

The path is very easy. It is not possible to drive directly to the Point. However, there are free shuttles if you can't get there.
5

The moor

We cross the moor to go towards the Pointe du Raz. We do not see much except the ocean far away, it is better to prefer the coastal road from the parking. It is a little longer but much more beautiful.
2

The Pointe du Raz

Opposite the Pointe du Raz is the island of Sein, 8 kilometres away. The currents off the Pointe are very violent and have led to many shipwrecks on the rocks. Visitors come here to admire the impressive spectacle of the waves breaking against the rocks and to feel the power of nature in its raw state.
1

The coastal path

After the visit of the Pointe de Raz, you can take the coastal path towards the Baie des Trépassés. This is the most beautiful part of the hike. The path is not very easy, there are many ascents and descents.
4

The beach of the bay des Trépassés

The Baie des Trépassés owes its name to the fact that many bodies, coming from the frequent shipwrecks in the region, came to rest in this bay. The passage of the Pointe du Raz was for a long time dangerous for the sailors.
2

Surf

The beach of the Baie des Trépassés is a famous surf spot in Brittany.
1

Restaurants

You can eat during your hike because there are a few restaurants near the beach. If you want you can even start the hike on this side to avoid paying the parking. It is certainly a very nice way to discover the Pointe du Raz. Be careful, it is difficult to find a place for the car in summer.
2

The return

The return is done on the same coastal path, you can however find on the way back a junction to come back directly to the parking.
