A walk in Giverny in the footsteps of Monet

A visit to discover Giverny where the painter Claude Monet lived. Giverny is located in Normandy, 1 hour from Paris.

Difficult to describe this walk, tourist attraction? MoneyLand ? Everything looks artificial in Giverny. Auvers-Sur-Oise for Van Gogh and Barbizon for Jean-François Millet seem much more authentic. Here one has the impression that everything is done to take out one's wallet. The Japanese garden is nice but we see the same one everywhere. Every city has a small Japanese garden. After that I think that the visit in September must be more interesting. The Monet foundation which manages Monet's house, and the musée des impressionnismes just next door close from November 1st for the whole winter. The loops of the Seine and the region are beautiful, Monnet was right but you don't need to linger in Giverny! It is better to visit La Roche-Guyon a few kilometers away.

Le jardin de Claude Monet

The garden is not very big, many people in the alleys. It's hard to find the atmosphere of the time, which must have been much calmer.

The garden of Claude Monnet's house

Frankly the garden has nothing extraordinary. I was not sensitive to the charm of the place.

The Japanese garden

It was here that Claude Monet painted his most famous paintings of water lilies. He made more than 250 paintings on this theme. The huge painting of the Water Lilies is exhibited at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris. A room has been specially built to exhibit it to the public.
