Walk in Colmar
A stroll through downtown Colmar to discover all aspects of this beautiful Alsatian city.
An easy walk to discover one of the most beautiful Alsatian cities with its half-timbered houses and its canals.
The main building was completed in 1840. It was through this building that all imported and exported goods passed.
The tanners' district
❤3
As in Strasbourg, the presence of canals and water favored the development of tanneries.
along the banks of the Lauch

Very pleasant walk along the banks.
Little Venice
❤5
The district is commonly called little Venice. One understands at once why with these houses and these channels. The name small is not overused either because one makes quickly the turn of it, it does not remain then more than to return to the downtown area.
Alsatian house in the center of Colmar
❤4
The center of Colmar is very beautiful and typically Alsatian.
The House of Heads
❤3
This building built in 1609 owes its name to the large number of heads that adorn its facade. Today it houses the Colmar Wine Exchange. We owe the statue of the cooper at the top of the building to Bartholdi (the one of the Statue of Liberty). Bartholdi was born in Colmar, you can visit his museum.
The Issenheim Altarpiece
❤2
Here is the jewel of the Unterlinden museum : the Issenheim altarpiece. The whole room is occupied by these painted panels which fit into each other. These very paintings are still difficult to understand for the uninitiated.
Cake moulds in the museum

The museum exhibits typical Alsatian objects like these Kougelhopf molds.
An Alsatian piece

The museum has several different sections. One of these sections shows aspects of Alsatian life and culture. This is the most interesting part of the museum.
The convent turned museum in Colmar
❤1
The Unterlinden Museum is located in a beautiful former convent, which was attached to the Dominican order.
In 1849 the convent was saved from demolition and the city decided to transform it into a museum.
