Hiking in the calanques in Marseille

A visit to the creeks of Cassis near Marseille. The hike allows you to admire the creeks of Port Mioux, Port Pin and en Vau.

The itinerary is quite long (6 hours) and allows you to admire 3 creeks located near Marseille. The departure of the hike is from Cassis. You can easily reach Cassis by train from Marseille (a train every hour at least). From the train station it is a good half hour walk to the calanques. Parking is also available.

The hike is located in a beautiful environment.

It should be noted that the paths are sometimes steep. In high season the crowds can be very large, it is better to visit the creeks off-season. In addition, access to the creeks may be prohibited or limited during the high season. It is necessary to inquire before departure with the park.

After the hike, you can go to Cassis to eat and enjoy this beautiful day.

At the beginning you walk along the old Solvay limestone quarry. The quarry was closed in 1982. The limestone of very good quality was used for the construction of the base of the Statue of Liberty in New York!

This cove is much higher and narrower than the two previous ones. In summer the parade of tourist boats coming from Marseille and Cassis is incessant.

The cove being more steep, we have to face a tricky passage to go back down to the sea level.
