The donkey pass

The col de l'Âne is a beautiful hike from the resort of Les Orres in the Hautes-Alpes

The departure is located on the Pra Paisset parking just before the resort of Les Orres 1800. There is no problem to find the departure it is very well indicated. The hike is quite long, it is not really difficult but you need to be trained. There are signs all along the way so you will have no trouble finding your way.

To find the parking lot, you just have to go to the resort of Les Orres 1800 by the road, you can't miss it. It is free of charge.

The signpost

A sign shows the different possible hikes from the Pra Paisset parking. The hike to the col de l'Âne is long: 3h (one way).

The forest trail

The whole beginning of the hike is on a forest trail. This is not the most interesting part.

The mountain pastures

After 1 hour of walking, the scenery changes completely and the path leads through green pastures.

The lake of Sainte-Marguerite

After 1h30 of walking we pass in front of the charming lake of Sainte-Marguerite. There is still 1 hour (1.2 km) to go up to the col de l'Âne.

The last climb is not very difficult if you take your time, there are many twists and turns and the slope is regular.

If you go up a little higher you have an even more beautiful view. The pass marks the limit of the Hautes-Alpes, on the other side you can admire the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence

The return is done by the same way, we pass again in front of the lake of Sainte-Marguerite.
