The city center of Nantes

The entrance to the courtyard of the castle is free, it is also possible to make the complete tour of the castle through the ramparts for free. Not to be missed, as you will have a magnificent view of the whole city.

The castle also includes a museum that describes the history of the city over the centuries, access is charged (8 euros).

The castle was built in the 15th century, Nantes was then the capital of Brittany. The castle served for a long time as a defense line against French enemies. It also served as a residence for the court of Brittany.

The castle is the birthplace of Anne of Brittany. Her marriage with the king of France Charles VIII in 1491 definitively attached Brittany to France.

The lawns of the castle are ideal for resting.

The cathedral is of flamboyant gothic style. Inside you should not miss the tomb of François II, the last Duke of Brittany and father of Anne of Brittany.

Nantes is a dynamic and young city, there are many restaurants and bars along the alleys.

It is good to walk in the pedestrian center of Nantes.

In the middle of the Place Royale is a magnificent fountain representing Nantes with the Loire River in the center and the four tributaries of the Loire on the sides. Note that the statue at the top of the fountain was supposed to hold a trident but that it is still stolen, so it is no longer replaced.
