Discovering the small belt of the 16th

The walk takes place in Paris in the 16th arrondissement on the old railroad line of the small belt.

The "petite ceinture" was a railroad track that went around Paris. It was gradually abandoned, the last trains ran until 1985 and then the tracks were removed in 1993. The City of Paris decided to rehabilitate some sections into forest trails open to the public. There are other sections of the old "petite ceinture" open to the public: la promenade plantée dans le 12ème and la petite ceinture dans le 15ème. Unquestionably it is in the 12th district that the walk is the most beautiful because it overlooks the city while passing on a viaduct. The walk in the 16th district is of little interest.

The Raven and the Fox

The entrance to the 16th arrondissement is at the level of the Ranelagh garden. The nearest metro station is "La Muette". On the square you can see the restaurant "La Gare" which is the old station of the petite ceinture, the entrance of the path is behind the restaurant. In the middle of the garden you can admire this beautiful statue illustrating "the Raven and the Fox".

Marmottant Monet Museum

Right next to the Ranelagh garden is the Marmottant Monet museum. In this museum you can see Monet's painting "Impression, Sunrise" which gave its name to the impressionism movement.

Very pedagogical panels mark out the course. One has the impression that the City of Paris is doing a lot on the ecological aspect of this path which passes in the middle of the buildings.

The way is not difficult to follow, it is straight, anyway we can hardly leave before the end of the walk.

After only a little more than a kilometer it is already the exit. You can easily reach the metro station "Porte d'Auteuil".
