The coastal path in Dinard

From the 1850s onwards, the town of Dinard prospered around the Écluse beach with the advent of the sea-bathing craze. Wealthy aristocrats built numerous hotels and casinos, contributing to the town's growth and development.

The walk starts right in the town centre.

The path runs along the coast. At high tide, you're right at the water's edge. Just a few hundred metres from the town of Dinard, this path invites you to marvel at and contemplate the wilderness.

When you reach the beach at Saint-Enogat, you can leave the coastal path and return to Dinard, passing through the magnificent surrounding villas. Saint-Enogat, now part of Dinard, was once a fishing village.

After the ascent we can have a magnificent view on the ocean, Dinard and Saint-Malo. At the bottom you can see the coastal road that you have just left.

Villa Greystones, built in 1938, stands out from the others for its more contemporary style. It now belongs to billionaire François Pinault, who is passionate about contemporary art. In his garden, he has installed a work by an Italian designer: a trunk supporting a stone. This piece of art can be seen from the coast.

Built on its rocky spur, the villa "Les Roches Brunes" is the emblem of the city. It was built in the 1890s for a Parisian fashion designer. It is the only villa that can be visited because it belongs to the city of Dinard. Important renovation works have been done and now the villa hosts temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

The seawater swimming pool was built in 1928 to allow bathing at any time.

There are signs indicating the risk of the path being submerged during high tides. You can get very wet if you try to pass during high tide. You have to be careful.

The panorama is exceptional on the city of Saint-Malo located in front of Dinard and on the estuary of the Rance.

For a long time, the slipway was used as a loading dock for the steamers that made the connection between Saint-Malo and Dinard. After the opening of the Rance dam in 1966 and a much faster road link, the slipway has lost much of its economic importance. The place has nevertheless kept a lot of charm.

The oceanic climate of Dinard favors an almost Mediterranean vegetation.
