The Butte aux Cailles is a district of the 13th arrondissement of Paris. Is the visit worth the trip?
The bad travel guides speak about a district which kept the aspect of a village where one takes pleasure to stroll in the small lanes. It's true that the rue de la Butte aux Cailles has kept a nice aspect with its numerous restaurants but the district as a whole doesn't have much charm. The newspaper "Le Figaro" explains : "The popular districts have always sheltered the best of urban art. Butte aux Cailles is no exception to the rule. ". To put it bluntly, the Butte aux Cailles hasn't been a working-class neighborhood for ages, and there's a lot more graffiti in any suburban town than on the Butte aux Cailles.
