Walk along the ocean in Royan

If the shape of the covered market reminds you of something, it's normal because the building was used as a model for the design of the CNIT in La Défense. Very beautiful market, to see.

The city of Royan was almost entirely destroyed during the bombings of the Second World War. It was necessary to rebuild everything, the church Notre-Dame is one of the emblematic places of this reconstruction.

You can choose to walk along the port to enjoy the many restaurants.

Royan is located at the entrance of the Gironde estuary. You can take a ferry to go to Le Verdon on the other side.

The "carrelet" is the large net suspended in front of the huts on stilts. By extension it gave its name to the fisherman's hut.

One can see many vestiges of the German occupation during the second war because Royan was an important passage which controlled the entry in the estuary of the Gironde. The city was only liberated in April 1945!

All along the promenade there are beaches where you can rest.

Planet exotica is indicated on all the maps of the city as "The gardens of the world" but once arrived we realize that this park has changed its name. Huge parking lot almost empty, very expensive entrance, nothing interesting, go quickly.
