The MAM in Paris

The MAM for Museum of Modern Art!

New-York has its MOMA (Museum of Modern Art). Paris has its MAM. This museum is located not far from the Eiffel Tower. If you visit the Eiffel Tower and you are not too tired you can go to the Museum of Modern Art (15 minutes walk from the Trocadero). There are so many museums in Paris that it is difficult to choose for the tourist. This museum exhibits contemporary paintings. Most of the paintings of the museum have been done in the 20th century. Is it worth the trip if you only have a few days to visit Paris? The answer is simple: no. The paintings and the sculptures are not of the same calibre as those in other prestigious Parisian museums. The only advantage of the MAM: Admission is free for the permanent collection, i.e. almost the entire museum.

The museum buildings were built for the 1937 World's Fair. That it is not the best period for the architecture.

Very nice terrace in summer to have a drink with a view on the Seine and the Eiffel Tower.

The Palais de Tokyo

The Palais de Tokyo
Actually the Museum of Modern Art is located in the Palais de Tokyo but it occupies only one wing. There is the Palais de Tokyo in the other wing which is another museum with an entrance fee (12 euros). The two museums which are side by side have the same theme: contemporary art. The Palais de Tokyo is even more elitist than the Museum of Modern Art. Ridiculous situation!

The museum has just been redone. The paintings are classically displayed next to each other in all-white rooms.

Museum Room

Museum Room
The rooms have themes but they all look the same. The common theme of all rooms seem to be the ugliness of the paintings. In the middle of the room thrones a car compression by Caesar.

There are some interesting pieces of art but there are few paintings that will really make an impression on you. You pass in front of them with a quick glance. Youdon't stop.

The wooden panels that make up the painting occupy a huge room.

This work is quite representative of all those in the museum.

If you walk for 5 minutes after the visit of the museum you can admire another popular form of art. The replica of the flame of the Statue of Liberty has become a monument dedicated to Princess Diana at the entrance of the tunnel where she died. The padlocks are back!
