Visit of the Villa Savoye and the city of Poissy

A visit to the town of Poissy and the famous Villa Savoye located 1 hour from the center of Paris

You can get to Poissy by public transport (RER) or by car. If you come by RER and you want to visit the Villa Savoye you will have to walk a little on a rather sloping road otherwise there is a big parking for your car just next to the Villa Savoye. You can then visit the city center which is located a little further. The walk is very nice along the Seine, you can admire the old bridge and the Collegiate Church of Poissy.

The villa Savoye, which bears the name of the former owners, was built between 1928 and 1931 by La Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. It is classified as a historical monument since 1965. It was far ahead of its time.

The visit of the interior of the villa is not free (8 euros) but you can enter the park and see the exterior of the villa without paying. There are even some benches in the park.

The park surrounding the villa is not very big and the surroundings are not exceptional (buildings and houses). You can see everything in 10 minutes if you do not visit the interior of the villa.

After the visit of the villa, you can go back down to the Seine to discover the city of Poissy. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the city center. In passing, you can take a walk in the beautiful Meissonier park

The old Poissy bridge was destroyed by Allied bombing during World War II on May 26, 1944. Only a few arches remain. There is a beautiful view on the Seine from the remains of this bridge.

The Collegiate Church of Poissy

The Collegiate Church of Poissy
Its name comes from the college of canons who provided religious services. It is in this church that Saint-Louis was baptized in 1215. The visit is interesting the church mixing Gothic and Romanesque styles.
