The Commanderie des Templiers in Elancourt

A short visit to the Commanderie des Templiers. The name makes you dream but the disappointment is great!

The name of the Knights Templar still stirs the imagination with stories of crusades, power and treasures. The Commandery was built by the Templars in the 13th century. From the outside the buildings and the chapel are very beautiful, there has been an important renovation recently. It's when you go inside that it gets spoiled. The Commanderie has been converted into a cultural center, you can enter the inner courtyard, the door is always open. And then nothing, everything is closed, the opening hours are very unclear. There is a park next door where you can go for a walk. Look carefully the official website to see the opening hours and visits.

The chapel is very beautiful from the outside, it was renovated a few years ago. To visit the interior you have to aim right, it should be open only about ten times a year.

The exhibition program

The exhibition program
The Commanderie is very well presented but you can visit everything in 10 minutes, there is absolutely nobody most of the time. There are very few exhibitions organized during the year.

The park

Next to the Commandery there is a small park where you can take a walk. Nothing extraordinary.
