From Joinville-le-Pont to Nogent-sur-Marne: the guinguettes

A walk in the Paris region on the banks of the Marne to discover the last guinguettes.

An easy and rather short walk (3h) on the banks of the Marne. No need for a car to get to the departure point, you can leave directly from the RER A station in Joinville-le-Pont. There are signs in the station indicating the exit to follow. At the arrival, you just have to join the RER E station of Nogent Le Perreux to come back to Paris. The theme of the walk is that of the guinguettes but in fact you won't find any on the way, there are no more, there are only restaurants with a terrace. On the other bank you will see one of the last representatives of the guinguettes Chez gégène. The stroll remains nevertheless pleasant even if one is in full heart of city one remains always very close to the edges of the Marne.

Practical information

Fanac Island

A small detour to visit the Ile Fanac. It is on this island that was created the first guinguette in Joinville-le-Pont. It does not exist anymore. Nice view on the Marne from the island.
14

The banks of the Marne

The path at the beginning of the walk is very pleasant, it is located directly next to the Marne.
25

Indicative sign

All along the route there are signs that give information about the places visited.
13

Restaurant barge

A barge where you can eat while listening to accordion music in the background. The outside is not very pleasant.
69

The banks of the Marne

The banks of the Marne, although very urbanized, are well highlighted.
9

Chez Gégène

The most famous guinguette of the Marne river banks. It is located just in front of the other side of the Marne, we just pass by.
28

The terrace at Gégène's

One of the last "guinguettes" on the banks of the Marne where you can eat and dance. The restaurant does not have a very good reputation, only the setting remains interesting.
36

Path of the Island of Beauty

The island of beauty is no longer an island because the arm of the Marne has been filled in, there remains this path as a vestige.
12

Refurbishment

The banks are being rehabilitated. They are very well highlighted.
5

Arrival at the port

The walk ends at the port of Nogent-sur-Marne. The port is very pretty and gives the illusion of being on vacation by the sea. It is one of the largest ports in the region.
12

A curiosity

The small footbridge on the picture is the Passerelle des Arts, it is the first metal bridge built in France in 1802-1803.
11

End of the hike

It only remains to go back to the city center to take the RER E, the RER A station being too far away (it brings us back almost to the starting point).
