A pleasant walk along the sea to see the remains of the second world war: the battery of Longue-sur-Mer.
An easy walking tour in Normandy on the traces of the landing of June 6, 1944. The visit is relatively short (1 to 2 hours), the path passes among the bunkers of the German battery of Longues-sur-Mer. The visit is entirely free.
History of the site:
In preparation for the D-Day landings, the Allies bombed the site, but it was Allied warships that silenced the battery during the day on June 6. On the morning of June 7, British soldiers took the battery and captured the garrison.
The Longues-sur-Mer battery, although very impressive, did not have much impact on the progress of the landings. It was quickly put out of action.
