A walk around the Saint-Ferréol lake with its famous sprays of water

The Saint-Ferréol basin was built in 1667 to provide water for the Canal du Midi. It is especially useful in summer. At the exit of the dam, the water goes in a gutter to join the Canal du Midi 34 kilometers further.

The walk around the lake is very easy and very pleasant. In the middle of the summer, many people from the region come to picnic in the shade of the pines.

Going down the dike, we find a lovely little park where we can see this spray of water. It is really amazing and not to be missed.

The lake is an artificial lake. The dam is 750 meters long, it is the oldest dam in France.

The beach

The lake is ideal for swimming and sailing. The water level varies from year to year depending on rainfall. At the end of the summer, the water level is at its lowest because the lake has played its part in feeding the Canal du Midi. It's not the most beautiful beach in the world.
